The second week in March has been dedicated to recognizing the services AmeriCorps members provide to our country. Wisconsin ReadingCorps members are included in this celebration. We'd like to take this opportunity to celebrate our incredible ReadingCorps Tutor, Heidi Young, for all she does to support La Farge Elementary students. We are so glad you are here! At La Farge Elementary, we use PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) as a way to teach and reward positive behaviors. Each month, we have an assembly to celebrate and reinforce the behaviors being taught, acknowledge students and classes, and to have fun as a school community. This month, these students were chosen for doing a good job at handing strong emotions. Great job to all of our La Farge Elementary students. We are so proud of you using our Wildcat 4 (Respectful, Responsible, Safe, and Kind)!

Performing groups included: Woodwind Ensemble, Brass Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble and Trumpet Choir. Our Woodwind Ensemble received a 1* and is headed to state!

La Farge students and staff would like to highlight a very important group of staff members. Mr. Heitman, Ms. Maddie, and Mr. Johnson are just a few of the paraprofessionals that help our students be successful every day. Thank you for all that you do! Keep an eye out next week when we highlight the rest of our paraprofessionals.

The Wellness Committee sponsored a group hike for staff to Wildcat Mountain State Park Ice Cave Trail during inservice. The walk to the ice cave was about 3/4 of a mile round trip. They also went to the lookout point to enjoy the views after the hike.

Last week the Elementary students celebrated Read Across America week. This year's theme was "Books that make you LOL!" On Thursday, each class went to the library where different community members read funny stories to them. Afterwards, each student had the opportunity to choose a book, a bookmark, and a treat. It was a fun experience!

In 4th grade, social studies focuses on Wisconsin. Recently, the 4th grade students have been learning about where Wisconsin is in the world. This involves studying maps to better understand hemispheres, continents, countries, regions, states, and counties.

In Mrs. Ellingen's room, many of the older students learn strategies and specific techniques to make the vocalic “r” sound (or, er, ar, ire, ear, air). This is when speech production gets serious and students work super hard to figure out how their tongue works best to make the vocalic “r” sounds! Two ways – Retroflexed Tongue or Bunched Tongue. Retroflexed is when the tongue tip goes up and “licks” the roof of the mouth back. Bunched is when the tongue is flat, moves back and bunches up in the back of the mouth. After students figure out what technique works best for them, they add in correct placement of lips and jaw!

La Farge Schools received grant money for technology in our schools. The art room was fortunate enough to receive iPads for 1:1 use. They've already been used for drawing videos, drawing apps, or school channel content and early finishers. Students have created stickers, personal logos and art just for fun so far!
